Cooking in the kitchen has its
difficulties but there are many things you can do to get
the most out of your time in the kitchen. Some of the
tips we are about to share have been around since the
beginning of time. Our grandparents often have amazing
tips, so it’s important to preserve their knowledge and
learn from it. Here is a collection of 10 kitchen tips you can use every
day:
1.
Add salt to help boil water. Adding
salt will help speed up the boiling process. But as a
bonus, if you are boiling eggs, it will help prevent the
egg shells from breaking.
2.
Putting fruits and tomatoes in the
fridge will only degrade their taste and smell. Have you
ever noticed at the grocery store that 95% of the fruits
and vegetables are not being chilled? This is because
they know that if they chill them, it will ruin their
potential and most likely suffer a backlash from
shoppers.
3.
Store bananas away from other fruits.
Bananas release gases that will speed the rotting process
of everything around them. Also, to keep bananas as fresh
as possible, cut the banana from the bunch where the stem
meets the banana itself. Ripping off the banana at the
top will cause the bunch to spoil much
faster.
4.
To keep your salt from clumping, add
some white in the same container. This is especially
popular in Asian cultures and it truly
works.
5.
Home made soup is the best. However,
there can be a lot of hidden fat mixed in. Let the soup
cool down and drop a couple of ice cubes in it. The cold
ice will cause the fats to harden which you can then
scoop out.
6.
Use your old cooking water to feed your
plants or garden. Just make sure that it is cool before
doing so. There are a lot of nutrients in cooking water
that they can benefit from. However, don’t pour acidic
juices as this may do more harm than
good.
7.
Season your stainless pots and pans.
Seasoning your pots and pans will keep food from
sticking. It’s important too follow these simple rules:
Before you cook with them for the first time, season them
with oil. Never wash them with harsh soaps or scrub the
bottoms. If you need to wash it really well, season them
again before next use. When storing them, oil them and
store in a plastic bag.
8.
Keep your knives sharp. Using a dull
knife is a recipe for disaster. We tend to use more force
when using a dull knife which leads to problems. If you
don’t have a knife sharpener you can always get them
sharpened at your local butcher shop for a small
fee.
9.
Prepare everything in advance.
Scrambling around for items while things are cooking is a
recipe for fire and disaster.
10. Clean your fridge often and leave a
small opened box of baking soda inside. This will help
curb smells. Your fridge can harbor some nasty things, so
don’t neglect it. When cooking you only want to use the
best and freshest of
ingredients!
